Typhoon from a C130 Ramp

Sometimes a picture just grabs you. And there is not much to say about it. In fact the less said the better given it stands on its own so well. And then…

…you read all the drivel on the web about what the photo is about and you can barely refrain from replying to the inane speculation that is out there. It is one of the weaknesses of the web - that things are set in “fact” for perpetuity. Like the proposition that the pilot of this aircraft was grounded for flying so close to the ramp of the C-130. Pleeasse! Then all the pseudo propeller heads out there want to bang on about how impossible it is to get this close, that the ingestion of the Typhoon would suck air out of the C-130 and on and on and on and on. The last straw are all the imagery gurus who insist this was “photoshopped” into existence. I have a very low pain threshold when it comes to armchair experts commenting on the military and especially journalists who don’t do even the most basic homework yet report in error but with authority. Boy they really grate. Phew, how did I ramble to here?

Great shot of the Typhoon angling up on a C-130 as part of a Royal Air Force filming effort. It was used in a recruiting advertisement for the RAF and you can see some of the filming on the clip over on the right hand side of the blog - or here (if you are reading this long after I have posted this).

Reminds me of hanging out the back of the ramp of a Caribou looking for a plane that had disappeared over the Great Barrier Reef. Oops, another story for another time.
