Multans Sultans – Taxi Story (Pakistan 3)

March 18, 2018

(I use my time in the taxi to practise my interview techniques.  In so doing I suddenly realised I was uncovering some remarkable stories. Some are captured on my blog under the Taxi Story collection  – click on link in right hand bar to see some of them).

I’ve been in Australia for just five years. I had a friend who I had not seen for a while. I looked him up on Facebook and he said he was ‘at the other end of the world’ studying at Griffith University. I had no idea where that was so I looked it up and discovered it was in Australia. I was surprised but I kept researching Griffith. Eventually I went to my father, borrowed some money from him and came to Brisbane.

I completed two Masters degrees here, one in civil engineering and one in project management. But now I am too qualified and cannot get any work. If I leave my Masters degrees off my CV people ask what I have been doing over the last few years. When I tell them about my Masters the interview finishes. I don’t want to lie about my degrees but they are stopping me finding work. But this is life and life is teaching me something and in this taxi work I meet lots of people. More importantly I am not sitting around doing nothing and getting stagnant. I have no family here. That’s why I travel to Pakistan every year, to see my family. I go back to Multan. It’s famous now (he grins).   We now have the Multan Sultans in the Pakistan (Cricket) Super League. They have won four of their last six games.
