A week ago I met with a fellow blogging traveler – traveler and blogger that is. A first for me, meeting someone through the internet that is and then catching up face to face. There was some irony in driving off to the meeting given there was a sense of ignoring all the advice (mostly ignored) that you give your kids about meeting strangers over the net – and worse, following up. That can only lead to disappointments. Or worse.
Happily I can say that the meeting with John the Global Bedouin had a sense of meeting with an old friend, helped no doubt by the shared blogging snippets and correspondence over the last twelve months or more. We share an interest in travel, other people and their cultures and communities but especially in writing about them. And writing in general. Normally based in Italy he was passing through Sydney for a few days so it was good chance to catch up, shake hands and share a coffee and a few stories. There are lots of things about communication via the web that I enjoy. Catching up with a new old friend never previously met has added another (positive) dimension to that.

Likewise friend!! Hope to see you soon at Fast Twitch.
I have yet to meet any other bloggers face to face although I am sure I would like plenty of them. I try to stay too anonymous for that I guess. I don’t even go to geocaching events that are local to me because I would rather stay anonymous in that realm too.
That is great that you met and it was a good time. Just don’t tell the kids…haha.
