Published by Harper Collins this novel set in Baghdad has its roots in this blog. Many of the blogs written in Baghdad found their way into the book pretty much in their entirety.
A very satisfying collection of creative writing from a Writing Group called Fast Twitch.
“Black and White with Colour” This anthology contains surprisingly good short pieces of writing and poetry. The authors are part of an informal writers group in Sydney Australia. Many (most) are published here for the first time and, prior to joining this group some authors had never written any creative pieces at all. Which makes the innovation and creativity published in this volume all the more remarkable. Some of the vignettes here were written in response to short exercises written at their monthly meetings while more complex pieces were written over a longer period of time. There is some clever structure and craftsmanship in a number of the articles though in all of the submissions there is an obvious desire to tell a good, rounded out story. A special feature of Black and White with Colour is the number of young authors who have contributed to the anthology. It adds rather than detracts from the work and is a measure of their wide ranging passion for writing. Their younger authors are treated as equals and being published in this way can only be a great encouragement to them. Some in the group read King’s On Writing – “just write” is his injunction. So they just wrote, had fun doing so, and this is the pleasing and readable result.
